Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty signals firm start for India on tariff pause; CPI, WPI eyed

Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a positive note on April 15, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 23,309 earlier this morning.

The Indian stock markets are likely to extend their gains for another consecutive session, supported by the strong finish on Wall Street overnight. The rally in the US was driven by a pause and certain exemptions in tariffs announced by the US administration last week. Notably, Indian markets remained closed on Monday, April 14, in observance of Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti.

Meanwhile, investors are also awaiting India's March month retail and wholesale inflation data, along with fourth quarter earnings reports from companies, including names such as IREDA and MRP Agro, among others.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 75157.26 up by 1310.11 points or by 1.77 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22828.55 up by 429.4 points or by 1.92 %.

On the global front, Japanese stocks led gains in Asia while US stock futures edged down as investors continued to evaluate mixed messages on tariffs from the Trump administration.. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 was higher by 1.18 per cent, South Korea's Kospi was ahead by 0.51 per cent, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 had gained 0.38 per cent.

US stocks ended higher on Monday, with Apple giving the S&P 500 its biggest boost as the White House exempted smartphones and computers from new tariffs.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 312.08 points, or 0.78%, to 40,524.79, the S&P 500 rose 42.61 points, or 0.79%, to 5,405.97 and the Nasdaq Composite rose 107.03 points, or 0.64%, to 16,831.48.
