Stock market benchmark indices went into a tailspin on Monday, with the Sensex and Nifty crashing over 5 per cent, mirroring a sharp fall in global equities, after US President Donald Trump's tariff hikes and retaliation from China fanned fears that a full-blown trade war will impact economic growth across the globe.
At 10:50 hours, the 30share benchmark index was trading at 72585.78 down by -2778.91 points or by -3.69 % and then NSE Nifty was at 21960.95 down by -943.5 points or by -4.12 %.
Sensex touched intraday high of 73149.12 and intraday low of 71425.01 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22190 and intraday low of 21743.65
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 126.95,-9.61%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 562.15,-8.42%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3039.40,-6.74%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1336.50,-6.00%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1255.35,-5.01%), among others.
