Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a flat-to-positive note on April 2, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 23,314 earlier this morning.
On April 1, the first trading session of the new financial year 2025-26, equity indices declined for the second consecutive day, with the Nifty closing below 23,200 amid broad-based selling, except in the media and telecom sectors.
Market participants are likely to remain cautious as they await details on the reciprocal tariffs hinted at by US President Donald Trump since taking office. Reports from the White House suggest that the tariffs will take effect immediately upon announcement, which is scheduled for 4 PM on April 2 at an event in the White House Rose Garden.
Additionally, investors will closely monitor global market trends and foreign institutional investor activity for further direction.
On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76024.51 down by -1390.41 points or by -1.8 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23165.7 down by -353.65 points or by -1.5 %.
On the global front, Asian shares were trading lower as U.S. President Donald Trump to roll out fresh tariffs this week.
The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite both closed higher on Tuesday, after a topsy-turvy day on Wall Street dominated by investor angst ahead of the impending tariff announcements from the Trump administration.
The S&P 500 gained 21.22 points, or 0.38%, to 5,633.07 points, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 150.60 points, or 0.87%, to 17,449.89. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged down 11.80 points, or 0.03%, to 41,989.96.

Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 28676.45 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 934.48 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 20555.49 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1800.10 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 8120.96 Crore and Rs. -865.62
