Post-Session: Sensex ends 557 pts higher; Nifty at 23,550

Benchmark equity indices extended the rally to fifth straight trading session, and in the process recorded the best weekly gain in more than 4 years.

Among the Sensex 30 shares - NTPC was the top gainer, up 3.3 per cent on Friday. Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, Larsen & Toubro, Kotak Bank, Nestle India, Tata Motors and Axis Bank were the other major gainers. On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra slipped over 1 per cent. Tata Steel, Infosys, Titan and Bajaj Finserv were the other losers.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 76905.51 up by 557.45 points or by 0.73 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23350.4 up by 159.75 points or by 0.69 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 77041.94 and intraday low of 76095.26 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23402.7 and intraday low of 23132.8

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 351.15,+2.78%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 8918.60,+2.75%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2084.40,+2.41%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1075.90,+2.13%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3417.35,+2.03%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1592.60,-1.34%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 157.25,-1.10%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2799.30,-1.08%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3163.60,-0.91%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1839.65,-0.63%), among others.

BSE Oil&Gas index was at 25095.9 up by 552.55 points or by 2.25%. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 357.05,+6.09%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 174.70,+3.71%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 242.55,+2.88%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 279.75,+2.85%), Adani Total Gas Ltd. (Rs. 631.00,+1.88%),.

In BSE, BSE_PSU index was at 17935.09 up by 288.25 points or by 1.63%. Mangalore Refinery And Petrochemicals Ltd. (Rs. 135.65,+15.10%), Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 632.50,+9.90%), General Insurance Corporation of India (Rs. 444.90,+8.67%), The New India Assurance Company Ltd. (Rs. 165.20,+7.69%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 357.05,+6.09%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4389 , shares advanced were 2914 while 1313 shares declined and 162 were unchanged.
