The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has entered into contracts worth approximately Rs 2,500 crore to procure the Nag Missile System (NAMIS) Tracked version of the anti-tank weapon platform and around 5,000 light vehicles for the Armed Forces. The agreements were signed in New Delhi on March 27, 2025, under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category, in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh.
NAMIS (Tr) Weapon System
Developed by the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) under DRDO, the NAMIS (Tr) system contract is valued at ?1,801.34 crore. This advanced fire-and-forget anti-tank missile system features a sophisticated sighting mechanism to bolster the mechanised infantry's operational capabilities. It significantly enhances the Indian Army’s anti-tank strength, ensuring higher firepower and battlefield dominance.
Light Vehicles
In addition, Force Motors Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd will supply approximately 5,000 modern light vehicles designed to support an 800 kg payload. These vehicles are equipped with enhanced engines and are capable of traversing diverse terrains, providing greater mobility to the Armed Forces.
Both procurements contribute to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by promoting indigenisation, boosting the domestic defence industry, and creating direct and indirect employment opportunities, particularly in the MSME sector.
